THE EXPECTED KITCHEN INVESTMENT
It is difficult to wrap your mind around just how much a kitchen renovation should cost. There is such a wide variety of kitchen styles, design choices, appliance needs, and not to forget the scale of your renovation, all of which determine the investment needed to complete the project. WOW, that was a mouthful.
Each kitchen is different, to say the least. One renovation might look as simple as replacing countertops and knobs. Some might be painting the cabinets, replacing the doors, and all of the above. We all love to knock down walls, raise the ceilings, change the floors, doors, and all of the elements mentioned before. That said, the sky is the limit, and your investment needs to be in line with the hopes for your space.
Funded through tragedy or saved for over time, it seems no one wants to dish out nearly $80,000 in one swipe. Let’s snag some skymiles or leverage time and take a HELOC (home equity line of credit)
Your home is where your memories are made. Your kitchen is often called the heart of your home, and memories are made with each dish you prepare. Let’s chat about good memories vs bad memories for a moment. The organization of your kitchen leads to the most efficient function and ease of use. The appliances in your kitchen can make or break your food prep journey or turn up the heat and crisp the skin on the perfect baked chicken. The countertops covered in cookie cutters and snickerdoodle dough is the epitome of a core childhood memory. Every day, we might presuppose that we just have to function in these afterthoughts of a food storage and prep space. We don’t! Our kitchens can work for us, make it a space you and your family will love to be in. Make your kitchen a space for you. Not based on trend, the real-estate market, or the dollar signs. Your kitchen investment is determined based on a perfect blend of your envisioned future memories, the tools you need to make your life easier, the style that speaks to you, and the money you plan to invest in your home.
So what does that number look like? We renovated a kitchen (15-foot single wall with an island), took out a few small walls, and installed all new appliances, fully custom cypress cabinets, and beautiful Cambria quartz countertops. The total investment was nearly $85,000. The same style kitchen with semi-custom cabinets would have been $75,000 or less depending on the cabinet manufacturer. That same kitchen with flat pack cabinets would have looked a little different but could have cost closer to $40,000. There are many iterations of the same or super similar style kitchens.
It’s what’s on the inside that counts.
Every detail seems to nickel and dime the ticket. This knob costs $5 each and the other knob that seems so very similar and to some people might look the same costs $20 each. Take a moment and add that up! The average kitchen has nearly 25 pieces of hardware. There is a huge difference between $125 and $500. Apply that to every inch of your kitchen,
and that explains the range and variety.
THE BOTTOM LINE
The 2025 average cost of a kitchen renovation can range from super modest $25,000 to $200,000, depending on the size of the kitchen, type of cabinetry preferred, and overall scope of the project.

Key Factors
Cabinet replacements are the most expensive part of a kitchen remodel. Think 400+ per box.
Cosmetic changes, such as custom cabinets and replacing countertops, are considered minor remodels. Major equates to moving walls and changing ever-y-thang!
Upgrades to appliances, flooring, and semi-custom cabinetry are considered mid-range remodels.
Don’t underestimate the cost of the accessories. The knobs, decorative lights, organization, etc.
